ERIC RILKOA BLANK CANVASOCTOBER / 2026

ON THIS DAY — WEEKEND EDITION

October 3–4, 2026

October 3–4 history and observances presented as a museum exhibit

What a couple of days in history.

Germany reunified after decades of division.

Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day of Thanksgiving.

Edgar Allan Poe was found in distress in Baltimore, just four days before his death.

In 1582, parts of the world went from October 4 straight to October 15 as the Gregorian calendar was introduced.

And on October 4, 1957, Sputnik 1 launched into orbit and helped usher in the Space Age.

This weekend also brings German Unity Day, Mean Girls Day, World Animal Day, the beginning of World Space Week and Cinnamon Bun Day.

History has a funny way of reminding us just how much can happen in a day.

And we’ve still got some weekend left.

So enjoy it.

Get out there and do something. Go make somebody smile. Say hi to a stranger. Call somebody you haven’t talked to in a while. Laugh a little louder. Stay outside a little longer. Make a memory — even if it’s a small one.

Don’t just let Sunday happen.

Make today a good day. Make it memorable.

You only get one October 4th, 2026.

See the good. Be the good.
